History
The story of LKH
LKH began on 7 July 1926, when farmers from around Lüneburg founded a sickness fund for self-employed farmers: a self-help fund of one profession, with 896 members in its first year. As early as 1929 it introduced a small deductible. The company moved its head office within Lüneburg in 1952 and in 1965 into a new building on Uelzener Straße, which it shared with its partner insurer for life insurance, the Landeslebenshilfe, and extended in 1992. Today LKH is still a mutual and describes itself as not tied to any group. In 2025 it insured 155,299 people with full cover and 334,599 people in total.
